Which JC subjects does MACRO Academy offer?

We teach the full A-Level stack. H2 Economics (9757), H2 Mathematics (9758), H2 Chemistry (9729), H2 Biology (9477), H2 Physics (9749), and H1 General Paper (8881). H1 Mathematics (8865) and H1 Economics (9570) are also available, along with H2 Further Mathematics (9649), but on request. Every subject is led by a Head of Department who specialises in that one discipline. New JC1 students typically start with three or four H2s plus GP. We recommend students to make multiple subjects with us for the best experience.

Do you cover the latest SEAB syllabus?

Yes. Every programme is built around the current SEAB A-Level syllabus and refreshed yearly. When MOE adjusts paper format, mark-scheme structure, or topic weighting, our materials are updated before the new academic year — not after the first cohort sits the new format. We also factor in the most recent Cambridge examiner reports, so practice questions reflect the patterns examiners are flagging this year, not the ones from five years ago.

Can I take H1 instead of H2?

Yes. H1 Mathematics (8865) and H1 Economics (9570) are both offered. H1 is a single-paper subject covering a narrower portion of the H2 syllabus. Most JC students take H2 because universities weight it more heavily for course admissions, but H1 makes sense when your strengths sit elsewhere or when you're already taking four H2s and need to balance load. We'll advise honestly on the trade-off in the trial class, based on your specific subject combination and target university courses.

How big are the classes?

JC classes are capped at under 10 students, and we hold that cap even when it costs us enrolment. Below 10, the tutor knows every student's specific weak points by the second session and can address them directly during the lesson. Above 10, the Socratic teaching method we use collapses into lecture-style delivery. We are not looking to becoming a second 'school' for our students.

When and where do classes run?

Weekday-evening and weekend classes run across all four centres — Upper Thomson, Bukit Timah Plaza, Kovan, and Siglap — plus online sessions on the same timetable. Each class is exactly 2 hours. Online classes use the same tutors and the same under-10 class cap as in-person, and students can switch between formats during a term without changing class group. Centre-specific timetables for the upcoming term are confirmed at trial booking.

Who teaches the JC programmes?

Each subject is led by a Head of Department with deep JC-level teaching experience. Tutors are subject specialists — for instance, H2 Economics is taught by Oxford Economics graduates and former economists. We do not rotate generalists across disciplines. What is the actual teaching method?

Lessons run on Socratic questioning rather than drilling. Tutors ask, students reason through, tutors correct and extend the reasoning. Direct instruction and worked examples are interleaved with targeted practice which is aimed at each student's specific reasoning gaps. Students who perfect this method can answer any exam question on the concept.

There is no commitment after the trial and you decide whether to enrol based on what you actually experienced. The first session is always diagnostic — we identify whether the highest-leverage gap is conceptual, analytical, or in essay technique, and design the remaining weeks around closing it.

Can students join mid-year or after Prelims?

Yes, but we do not recommend it for our students. While our JC2 students who started post-Prelims still achieved strong A-Level results compared to their entry baseline, moving from a U or S grade to A by A-Levels with focused work, results vary greatly. Late starts are not a barrier, but will place you at a disadvantage.
