The Math Stack
Your child didn't get worse at math. The subject grew.
This section shows three columns of mathematical topics. At PSLE, students are examined on 19 cumulative topic areas. By the end of Sec 1 G3, the Ministry of Education syllabus introduces 52 new numbered subtopics. By the end of Sec 2 G3, students are expected to handle 87 subtopics in total — 35 of them introduced in Sec 2 alone. Topic lists follow.
Parents reach for the wrong explanations when a PSLE A-star student starts scoring 60s in Sec 1 — laziness, motivation, a bad teacher. The simpler explanation lives in the syllabus. Here is every distinct math topic your child is expected to know at each level, drawn from the current MOE Mathematics syllabus.
Each hexagon is one topic. Orange tiles are topics your child has never seen before.
