G3 English Tuition · Sec 1 & 2
Expert tutors. Structured practice. Reliable support.
MACRO Academy's English programme, built by Oxford and MOE educators, teaches your child the essence of English.

In Primary school, following the model answer earned marks. Structured paragraphs. Memorised phrases. Lifted quotes. The PSLE rewarded all of it.
In Secondary school, the examiner stops marking what is on the page and starts marking the thinking behind it. The transition from PSLE to Sec 1 is the most underestimated shift in Singapore's education system.
The Macro Advantage
Every annotation is an actual comment from a MACRO tutor.
Social media has become an unavoidable part of modern life. While it connects billions of people across the globe, many argue that it causes more harm than good. This essay will evaluate this view by examining the negative impacts on mental health, the spread of misinformation, and the erosion of privacy, before considering the counterarguments that highlight its benefits for communication and education. One significant harm of social media is its impact on young people's mental health. Studies have shown that excessive use of platforms such as Instagram and TikTok can lead to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. This is especially true for teenagers who compare their lives to the curated highlight reels of their peers. Cyberbullying is another serious issue, as harassers can target victims anonymously and around the clock. The pressure to gain likes and followers can also create a vicious cycle of addiction, where young people sacrifice sleep and real-world interactions for online validation. Furthermore, the algorithms that power these platforms are designed to keep users engaged for as long as possible, often by promoting content that triggers strong emotional reactions. This design choice prioritises profit over the wellbeing of children and teenagers.
